History
There is already quite some history to this little pub. The door was opened on January 28th. 1978 for the first time and the pubs charm and cosiness quickly led to a meeting place for great communication and gathering – 365 days a year.
The name “Zeitungsente” translated would be Newspaper Hoax. The pub owes its name to the common newspaper of Mainz, their writers, typesetters and printers. “Newspaper” stands for information and communication. “Ente” or “Hoax” symbolizes eager exchange of information or if you want to, gaggle or twittering. And that was exactly what the Zeitungsente was meant to be, a place where you could meet others, enjoy a glass of beer from the tap or a great glas of wine, and just feel comfortable and chatter a little with others.
“Zeitungsente” is also a description of little mistakes, which have found their way into a newspaper article by mistake and make the reader smirk. That is also what the Zeitungsente was meant to be, a pub with a loose atmosphere and a mixed audience – where nothing and nobody is perfect – another reason why we smirk at times.
And of course the variety of fresh tapped beers and the carefully selected wines, should make the Zeitungsente to the place it is today – a very comfy place to communicate with others, a place of relaxation for many.
